In 2004, I graduated from Trent University with a BA in Psychology. With this degree, I
worked in a variety of dynamic settings such as, group homes for people with varying
degrees of disabilities, youth homes within the system and as an Applied Behaviour Analyst
(ABA) at a private school for children with Autism. Through the cumulation of experiences
gained within these positions, I realized that the commonality which “filled my cup” so to
speak was the people; I feel like a productive and proud member of the working force when
I work with and help people.
This realization, in addition to seeking out a new challenge and maybe a bit of adventure,
led me down the Nursing path. I applied as a mature student and graduated from Trent
University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSCN) compressed program in 2009. Since
then, I have worked as a bedside Registered Nurse (RN) in a variety of clinical settings. I
have worked in many areas of healthcare such as, Surgery, Labour and Delivery, Palliative
Care and Hospice Care. All of which, in a unique way, have offered me that challenge and
adventure I was looking for. I am thankful for the endless learning opportunities that my
career in nursing has afforded me and memories that I will cherish. It is not a small
privilege to be a part of a person’s care in any capacity. It has been a great honour. I am
excited and looking forward to assisting people in this new and exciting way, as Sullivan
law Ptbo’s Personal Care Coordinator.
As your Personal Care Coordinator, what I still love most is you - the people!! I enjoy establishing a genuine connection, building a rapport that allows a little piece of your personal experience to be added to mine! Let’s learn from each other and be kind to one another. Within this role, I am enjoying the versatility that has allowed me to blend my past educational and work experience together to compliment this role with my knowledge of the healthcare system and being able to identify care needs and gaps that may exist. Allow me to be your concierge and assist you in coordinating care and navigating a system that can at times be daunting. I am here to support you and your loved ones!
“These days, Melissa coordinates the care instead of delivering it – which means she’s still helping people, just with fewer bandages.”
My goal is always for you to feel heard, seen and cared for. I want to help alleviate some stress where I can.
Current Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as well as the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO).
